districttwo What are things that pre-collapse children did for fun between the ages of 12-18.
The Collapse: During the 2nd attempted occupation of the countries of Iraq, Iran, and the middle east the United States efforts to enforce a world-wide dictatorship with themselves at the head were met with resistance. Nuclear retaliation by the countries of the United Arab Emirates and their allies along with dwindling resources led to the dissolution of the congress at NORAD and any attempts to unite Humanity.
Occupation was considered a necessary evil due to the wildfire devastation that destroyed most of the western coast of the continental united states as well as the earthquakes that split the country. The capitol, harvesting the brightest minds from the think-tank known as Hollywood brought them to NORAD and inland to create a shining utopia of creative thought and ideas.
Due to the greatness of the people brought from the government think-tank Hollywood, they were able to bring back several things and bring a degree of normalacy to displaced refugees who flocked into the areas eventually known as districts.
Basically when everything blew up and the great ones from Hollywood founded the capitol. What did children do for fun.

Why? Why'd they do such a stupid thing? You're more than capable of handling yourself.... Your warden isn't going to try to guilt you into anything now because of it....

[There may be a hint of jealousy in her tone, easily masked with contempt for the warden who thought they were doing him a favor. No one would have done that for her... not give up their life to save her...]

He tried to. [And here Cato looks uncomfortable] He mentioned something called the high guard and talked about how that's what he did.

Famous sports stars were chosen for their prowess and breeding capabilities and people who had made names for themselves. Among them descendants of the Kardashian Clan and Snooki, a spokesperson for the voice of the people.
They along with Steven Spielberg along with several other famous individuals were collected and transported to an area just outside of what was Denver where they were asked to remake humanity into an image that projected strength and survival. They emphasized that time must be spent in the act of creation and the act of entertainment which is why we have the Hunger Games today and the numerous programs that the capitol provides to the Districts at large.
They mattered. They were big names.
